(FULL/ORIGINAL VERSION IS ON OUR FACEBOOK PAGE)

Week 2 was a week to remember! For me personally, it was one to forget. Week 2 saw the Vigilantes and Xtreme go to double overtime. It saw a perennial lower tier team, (Outlaws) almost knock off the current  #1 team (Cobras). The Flathead Monsters got their first win in awhile by shellacking the Logan Stampede and how can I possibly forget, the Vipers went on the road to beat the Blackfoot Anarchy. The game literally came down to the last second. the Anarchy go for a 2-point conversion and the lose 20-21. Yours truly, Jeb Harrison, dropped the wide open 2-point conversion pass and cost the Anarchy the game. Last week showed us that PARITY may be the theme for this year’s RMFL season.

Anarchy at Stampede.

The Blackfoot Anarchy suffered a heart breaking loss at home last week to a talented Vipers team. The Anarchy scored with 13 seconds left in the 4th quarter to bring the score to 20-21. They chose to go for 2 points and the win and it backfired. I, the seventeen year veteran, Jeb Harrison was wide open in the end zone and a well thrown ball slipped through his hands. I can’t believe it. I have won games for my teams in the past, I have made clutch plays when it mattered but this one makes me sick. I had to fight the urge to immediately run off the field, retire and never look back. The Anarchy, severely disappointed, need to rally and respond. They will travel to the Logan Stampede. Logan suffered a resounding 42-0 loss on the road vs the Flathead Monsters. The 10 hour drive must have taken a toll on the Stampede as they only traveled with 19 players. The Stampede qb, Flash Gordon has struggled  so far this season but he will only continue to get better. Things don’t get any easier for them this week. They face an angry Anarchy team. The Anarchy offense last week had 335 yards of total offense, ( 260 rushing and 75 passing) with only 1 turnover. The reigning MVPP, Jarik May left the game in the second quarter with an injury and did not return. He is questionable for this week. However, Treyton Palmer filled in nicely at RB gaining 92 yards on 17 carries. The Anarchy had 17 first downs but also 8 costly penalties for 75 yards. The Anarchy need to bounce back and the Stampede need a win to build some momentum. A loss here could spell an ugly season for either of these teams. No prediction here. ( Anarchy $# and Logan 8)

Cobras at Mustangs. *Game of the Week*

Hey Mustangs! The good news is you finally get to play a game! Due to weather and a bye week, the Mustangs play their first game of the season this week and this one could be a doozy. The bad news for the Mustangs is that they get to host the #1 ranked Utah Cobras. The Cobras are 2-0 with wins over the Vipers and the much improved Outlaws. The Cobras have a deep roster and have two games under their belt. Reports say that the Outlaws could have and should have won last Saturday but just couldn’t make the plays when it counted. The Cobras qb, Hans Hatchet has only completed a third of his passes this season but the Cobra running game has been strong with rb Okeye (John) Nyondweh. The Cobras can score points in the air and on the ground. They have talented wide receivers as well. Also, playing two games is a huge advantage compared to the Mustangs first game. However, the Idaho Mustangs may have the answer for this team. The Mustangs claim to fame is to play tough defense. They have one of the best cornerback duos in the league with Matt Fisher and David Pasquella. Those two can just "man up" on the receivers and the Mustangs bring a lot of pressure. This makes things difficult for opposing offenses. This style of defense can also lead to giving up big plays. The Mustangs will need to get some decent offensive output, which has been their kryptonite for years, if they want to win this game. We don’t know much about the new Mustang qb Kevin Wolfe but usually first time qbs struggle in this league. We all know pass protection isn’t as great as you hope, timing hasn’t been established, a new offense and new dudes to play with takes time. Trust is not something easily earned in this league but if the Wolfe kid can play tough and earn respect from his team he can put himself in a great situation. (Cobras 19 Mustangs 6)

Vipers at Vigilantes

The Vipers will travel for the second straight week to take on the Vigilantes in Helena, Montana. The Vigilantes got a division win last week against rival, Billings Xtreme. With the high touted roster of the Vigilantes, last week’s game was shaping to be a blowout but the new look Vigilantes didn’t show up in full force. The Vigilantes played half the game without their star qb JJ Dorsch,  (who showed up at half time) and I guess hey had no receivers. Running back, Kevin Carter played qb the first half and the Vigilantes offense struggled. The Xtreme took an early lead on a muffed punt which set up a short field. The Vigilantes caught a big break in the 4th quarter with an errant punt snap that put the Vigilantes in prime scoring position. After a missed game winning field goal and a scoreless first overtime, the Vigilantes James King scored the winning TD to allow the Vigilantes to escape with the victory. My question is why did the Vigilantes travel so poorly for their first game and their rivalry game to boot? The Vipers traveled very well to Idaho and slipped away with a victory against the Anarchy. The Vipers WR, Sage Stireman is the real deal. He accounted for all three touchdowns against the Anarchy. He runs good routes, makes plays after the catch, and he can make great catches. As soon as I heard this kid light into an official, I knew he was the son of the great RMFL qb Dave Stireman. He has well over 200 yds receiving and 5 TDs so far. The Vipers qb, Colton Land can run very well and throws a really nice ball. The Vipers offense didn’t have very much success running the ball and didn’t sustain long drives but had a handful of very big plays by Stireman. If the Vigilantes don’t have fast dudes on the field, the Vipers will shred them. What has me so confused on this game is that don't know which Vigilante team will show up? They should have traveled much better to Billings then they did. Have they come together as a team or is it still half Vigilantes and half Gladiators? I do know that the Vipers traveled with 35 plus bodies to Idaho and will most likely do it again to Montana. Vipers get the edge here. Vipers 21-Vigilantes 13.

Monsters at Extreme
Nice job, Monsters! Your first win has to feel good. The rumors say that the Monsters picked up some Missoula players and might be a whole new team. The Stampede didn’t travel well to the Monsters and paid the price. Maybe starting off the season with a win will create some new excitement and energy for the Monsters and they can parlay that into a playoff game. The Xtreme have got to be pretty disappointed with the way their season started. The weather didn’t help their cause in week one by having to travel instead of host the Anarchy.
Then they had every opportunity to steal a win from the Vigilantes but couldn't seal the deal. The Xtreme need to find their identity on offense. They started the season with Derek Bergen at qb and changed to Sideris. A qb change this early in the season only questions everything they have been working on for the entire off season. Sideris is a better passer within 20 yards but Bergen can make plays with his feet and throw the deep ball. The Xtreme should win this game but if they cant find a way to score, (they have only scored 7 points in 2 games),  than it gives the Monsters a decent chance of going 2-0. I see the Monsters playing tough defense and the Xtreme playing tough defense with neither team scoring a lot of points. Xtreme 13- Monsters 12

I have played in this league for 18 years and over 150 games. I thought about quitting for the first time because I took my eyes off the ball. Never take this great game and league for granted. It’s too much fun. Good Luck everyone and travel safe.
