Friday, May 13, 2016
Viewmont High School Field- Bountiful, Utah

The Utah Cobras and Logan Stampede faced-off under the “Friday Night Lights” at the Stars and Stripes Academy.  The Cobras entered the game with an undefeated record to take on a depleted and short-handed Stampede organization.

Cobra RB John Nyondweh started the scoring, as he found the endzone from 1 yard out.  This was one of 4 total touchdowns for Nyondweh on the day.  The next score would come on an 8 yard run by Nyondweh to put the Cobras ahead 14-0 before the Stampede found an answer.

Logan found the endzone after a nice route and catch by WR Jesse Yarger from QB Nick Blackmon to make the score 14-7.  However, the Cobras would find an immediate answer to the Stampede score, as Nyondweh took the kickoff 90 yards for the touchdown to put the Cobras ahead 21-7 at halftime.

The second half featured more scoring from the Cobra offense, as QB Ryan Workman increased the lead to 28-7 after a 2-yard run before leaving the game.  Utah would then find points on their next possession as back-up QB Andy Jones completed a 30-yard pass to TE Steven Kinyon to give the Cobras a 35-7 lead.  The final Cobra score came on a Nyondweh 1-yard touchdown run to seal the deal and increase the lead to 42-7.

Logan would score on an 8-minute drive at the end of the game, as QB Nick Blackmon connected with WR Marshall Hedin for the score.  The 2-point conversion was successful after a completion to Jordan Atkinson to finish the scoring at 42-15 in favor of the Cobras.

Stampede QB Nick Blackmon completed 17 of 39 passes for 278 yards and 2 touchdowns.  His leading target on the day was WR Jesse Yarger with 8 receptions for 138 yards and a touchdown.  Blackmon also connected with 5 other receivers, including Sammie Hodges twice for 45 yards and Brady Lowe twice for 37 yards.  Lowe also contributed as one of the top performers on defense with 6 tackles.

Cobra QB Ryan Workman completed 5 of 11 passes for 68 yards and an interception, as well as 59 rush yards on 6 carries and a touchdown before his departure from the field.  Workman’s back-up, QB Andy Jones, completed 4 of 6 passes for 60 yards and a touchdown along with 22 rush yards on 3 carries.  TE Steven Kinyon was the leading receiver on the day with 3 catches for 51 yards and a touchdown.  John Nyondweh led the Cobra backfield with 77 yards on the ground on 16 carries and 3 touchdowns.

DE Ryan Tumanuvao led the Cobras defense with 3.5 tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss.  Kenja Mapp and Colby Elton also contributed with 3 tackles apiece, as well as Mapp’s interception returned for 30 yards.  Kalin Hadley would also have 2 interceptions of his own for the Cobras defense.

Next week, the Utah Cobras will host the Nevada Warriors in Pleasant Grove, Utah.  The Logan Stampede will travel to Idaho Falls to face the Idaho Mustangs at Raveston Stadium.
