This game turned out to be a hard-fought, smash-mouth battle between two talented organizations in the RMFL Big 9.  Both defenses took the reins for the majority of the game, not giving much for the offenses to work with.

 

The first half was a constant back and forth battle.  Penalties, dropped balls, and an inconsistent passing game plagued the Wildcats through the first two quarters, as multiple dropped and over-thrown passes left points off the board for them. As for the REV, the pass-heavy offense and the almost non-existent run game helped the Wildcat defensive ends wreak havoc on QB Charlie Peterson, coming up with four total sacks on the day.  They went into halftime tied 10-10.

 

Both offenses found their rhythm in the second half with the REV marching down for a quick score.  The Wildcats running game continued to leave their mark with Kingsley Moungaloa leading the way with 10 carries for 73 yards. The REV defense stepped up and pressured QB Jordan Hernandez to throw two interceptions, one of which set up a REV touchdown.  

 

 

The Wildcat defense didn’t go down without a fight, continuously pressuring the REV offense and forcing a big interception by CB Brady Sawsak in the end zone.  With the defense playing tough on two fumble recoveries and four sacks as well as a Roma Alo kickoff return for a touchdown, the Wildcats kept the game close until the final minutes.  The Rev came up with a huge sack that forced a fumble that resulted in a 63-yard fumble return for a touchdown by LB Levine Tupe.

 

 

Utah fought to the finish, coming up with a late 44-yard touchdown pass from Hernandez to WR Sammy Sweat, but it wasn’t enough and the game finished with a score of 31-22 in favor of the Wasatch Revolution.

 

REV QB Charlie Peterson completed 18 passes for 236 yards, including the use of key targets in Jordan Drage, Travis Anderson, and Trevor Jensen.  While the case may be that the run game was “almost non-existent”, the REV backfield produced all of the scoring for the offense, as Zach Guerts, DeAngelo Branche, and Avei Hunkin each found the end zone.  These three backs rushed for a combined total of 65 yards on 16 attempts and 3 touchdowns.

 

 

The REV defense was held together by Levine Tupe, Angel Castillo, and Ian Eyre each with 3.5 tackles apiece.  Tupe also made a game-changing impact with his 63-yard fumble return for a touchdown that would help seal the game for the REV.

 

 

Wildcat QB Jordan Hernandez completed 9 passes for 170 yards and 2 touchdowns, one to WR Major Smith and the other to WR Sammy Sweat.  Defensively, the Wildcats were led by Chaz Williams with 6 tackles, Dom Perry with 5, Jake Larsen with 5 and 2 sacks, and Zac Jensen with 5 tackles.  Brady Sawsak and Tyson Sargent were able to create turnovers for the Wildcat defense as well.

 

 

This week, the Wasatch Revolution will host their first home game of the season as they take on the Davis Vipers, who defeated the Las Vegas Raiders, 20-0, last week.  The Utah Wildcats will host another, as they take on the Utah Shock, who defeated the Brigham Sting, 27-22, last Saturday.
