Elko, Nevada- Warriors Field at Elko High School

 

The Nevada Warriors hosted the undefeated Utah Cobras at a wet and rainy Elko High School. The Warriors opened up driving down into Cobras territory with some effective runs by Bobby Bear and Matt Thornton, but on their 2nd 4th down of the opening drive they chose to punt the ball pinning the Cobras deep in their territory. Utah quickly made a statement as to why they are undefeated with long scores on their first two times touching the ball going up 14 to 0 early.

 

The Warriors then kicked into gear also scoring twice before going into halftime. With a 50-yard touchdown pass to Thornton and a 4th down redzone pass to Bear

 

Coming out for the second half the Cobras and Warriors exchanged punts before Utah came out and quickly racked up the points.

 

Cobra QB Ryan Workman completed 10-of-20 passes for 222 yards and 2 touchdowns, and also contributed in the ground effort with 7 carries for 79 yards and a touchdown.  RB John Nyondweh led the rushing attack with 126 yards on 12 carries and 2 touchdowns.  WR Ladale Jackson led the charge in the receiving corps with 126 yards on 5 receptions.  Illiott Alexander was also an effective leader at the receiver position with 30 yards on 2 catches and a touchdown.  Dana Davis would also have an impact on the game with his 55-yard reception.

 

Colby Elton aided the Cobra defense in dictating the tempo of the game.  Elton made 5.5 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, and had an interception as well.  Jeremy Covington contributed with 4.5 tackles and 2 tackles for loss.

Warrior QB Ely DeJesus completed 8-of-24 pass attempts for 144 yards and 2 touchdowns.  DeJesus ran for 46 yards on 5 carries as well.  Bobby Bear was a leader on offense, as he rushed for 86 yards on 12 carries and caught 3 passes for 75 yards and a touchdown.  Matt Thornton was also a leader on the offense with 5 carries for 21 yards and 4 receptions for 60 yards and a touchdown.  Thornton also had a 48 yard kickoff return to add to his performance.

 

Tyler Usko led the Warrior defense with 6.5 tackles and a tackle for loss.  Joey Roberts also made an impact with 4.5 tackles, 2 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks.

 

This week, the Utah Cobras improve to 4-0 and will go on bye week before traveling to Vernal, UT to take on the Uintah Basin Oilers (2-2) for the second time this season on May 7th.  The Nevada Warriors drop to 1-3 and will travel to Burley, ID to take on the Mini Cassia Diggers (3-1) in a rematch of the 2015 RMFL AA Championship.
