On Saturday, April 16 at Henderson International School, the Raiders hosted the Sting.  This was the Raiders first home game at their new turf facility.  A much needed improvement from the sand at Coronado High School.

Along with the beautiful football facility, the Raiders improved their performance from a week two loss to the Vipers.  The Raiders offense moved the ball well, but again mistakes and penalties cost the home team.

 

The Raiders defense improved from week two as well.  But in the end, after a second Raider touchdown was called back for a lineman down field, the Sting were able to pull off the victory against the young Raiders squad, 16-7.  Despite the loss, the Raiders continue to be optimistic about the season.  “It was a great game even though we couldn’t pull off the upset,” said Raider owner Shawn Spaulding.  “We are getting better every week and look at this season as a learning tool to prepare for next season.”

 

Raider QB DeMonte Haynesworth completed 19 of 21 for 270 yards and a touchdown as well as a 30 yard carry on the day.  WRs Kendrick Glinton and Joey Gentile finished with 5 receptions apiece.  Gentile led with 100 receiving yards and the only score for the Raiders.  Glinton had 50 receiving yards.  RB Nchong Enokenwa led the rushing efforts with 120 yards on 10 carries.

 

Defensively, the Raiders were led by DE J.P. Gludt and Ben Keliikoa with 9 tackles and 2 sacks apiece.  Team owner, Shawn Spaulding, also had an impact performance with 8 tackles and a sack.  Markus Parker and Roshad Wilson each had an interception on Sting QB Jordan Wager, who completed 6 of 17 for 90 yards and a touchdown.

Sting RB Mike Messinger led the Brigham offense on the ground with 85 yards on 14 carries and a rushing touchdown.  WR Colten Stark caught 3 passes for 72 yards and a touchdown as the lead receiver for the Sting.

Defensively, the Sting had multiple leaders in Jimbo Adams, Andrew Robinson, and Pesa Pauni who each had 3.5 tackles apiece.  Robinson also added a sack on Haynesworth.  Trevor Barney returned an interception 48 yards to help seal the Sting victory.

 

This week, the Brigham Sting will have a bye week before they host the Vegas Trojans on April 30th in Brigham City for the team’s first home game of the season.  The Las Vegas Raiders will face the Vegas Trojans in Henderson, NV for their first official “road” game of the season.
