The Idaho Mustangs (1-1) traveled to Smithfield, Utah to play the Logan Stampede (1-0) on Saturday night.  After a scoreless first quarter, Stampede QB Mike Jenkins connected with WR Sammy Hodges for the game's first score midway through the second quarter. After a defensive stop, Jenkins again threw a touchdown pass, this time hitting WR Jesse Yarger with 11 seconds left in the first half.

The Mustangs got the ball to open the second half.  The team drove the field effectively, and scored on a pass from Mustang QB Tristen Gilbert to his WR Channing, who made an acrobatic catch on the play.  After a failed point after attempt, the score was 13-6 in favor of the Stampede, which was the score at the end of the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, the Stampede defense forced several turnovers.  One of which led to a third touchdown pass from Jenkins.  This time his receiver was Justin Godfrey.  Another fourth quarter takeaway by the Stampede manifested as an interception returned for a touchdown by Andrew Espinoza for the final score of the game.

Mustang QB Tristin Gilbert finished with 185 yards passing and Cory Austin led on the ground with 32 rushing yards.  WRs Brad Cook and Matt Fisher each led the receiving corps.  Cook caught 3 passes for 47 yards and Fisher caught 2 for 68 yards.  The Mustang defense was led by Tyson Hoffman with 9 tackles, and Cory Walker with 8.5 tackles and 3 sacks.

The Stampede made more of an impact through their passing game, as QB Mike Jenkins led with 204 passing yards and 3 touchdowns through the air.  Jenkins’ leading targets were Marshall Hedin, Jesse Yarger, and Sammie Hodges.  Hedin caught 5 passes for 109 yards, Yarger had 2 for 31 and a touchdown, and Hodges finished with 2 catches for 28 yards and a touchdown for the Stampede offense.

Logan’s defense was led in part by Tanner Smith with 7.5 tackles and 3 sacks.  Three defenders came away with interceptions, which included Brady Wootton, Evan Jones, and Andrew Espinoza’s 25-yard pick six.

The final score was 27-6 in favor of the Stampede.  Logan will travel to Burley, Idaho next Saturday to play against the Mini Cassia Diggers (2-0).  The Mustangs will travel to Blackfoot to play against the Anarchy (0-1).
